Pet ID Microchip at Malta Animal Hospital

Dr. Heather Zaidel implants a microchip ID under a patient’s skin at Malta Animal Hospital

Whether it is a child forgetting to close the door all the way or a pet slipping out between our legs when we are not looking, there is always a chance that our dog or cat may get out of the house and wander off.

A collar with ID, is one way in which your pet may be identified and then returned home.  However, collars can get snagged on branches, fences, or on other objects and get pulled off.

The best way to ensure that your pet can be identified and returned to you if lost is with a microchip.  Microchips can easily be injected under the skin and, unlike a collar, will never fall off.   The pet can then be scanned at any veterinary hospital or animal shelter in order to be identified.

Microchipping is safe, easy to do, and is affordable.  Your pet does not need to be sedated or anesthetized for this quick procedure.  The Microchip is a little bigger than a grain of rice and is easily injected under the loose skin between your pet’s shoulder blades.  Once implanted, the microchip remains there for life.

At Malta Animal Hospital, we only use HomeAgain microchips which can be read by all scanners worldwide.  We also include the cost of registration in our microchipping fee.

If your pet has not already been microchipped, then please discuss this with your veterinarian today.
